The art form of multi (chopping) edits of pre recorded music had it's heyday in New York in the early 1980's from artists like Shep Pettibone, Jose "Chep" Nunez, Carlos Berrios, Roger Pauletta, Omar Santana, Joe Barrion, Charlie Dee, Juan Kato and a few others. These wizards would take actual recorded reel to reel tape and dice and slice the music up with razor blades on editing blocks, using Reel to Reel players like the Otari It was a long painful process of skilled work resulting in a unique version of the song that was being edited. In about 1985-6 there was intense competition of remixes and multi edits as many of the songs that these guys were editing would end up on the radio and also on wax of course. These editors would also do master mixes and many were featured on New York radio stations, WKTU, WRKS Kiss FM and WBLS and some even had their own shows (like the Latin Rascals) These pioneers inspired many producers to try and mimic their styles and master their editing techniques, some of the new generation of editors like the MP3 Genius or the Saxon Scoundrels of the UK scene and even myself managed to release some multi edits on wax ourselves. While all this was happening there was some noise slowly being made by a man named Steve Picardi near Boston who had his ears on the scene and thought perhaps he should try his skill at multi chopping..he started releasing edits that were so astonishing that he held equal if not better footing that many of the original pioneers. This is when the Bladerunners were formed. It blows my mind to be able to offer this remix by an absolute legend in the underground world of multi editing by nine other that the Bladerunners.. for more incredible edits by them go here...
